March 4

Year five’s wonderful trip to the Museum of London Docklands

On the 4th of March, year five visited the Museum of  London Docklands. We took the tube and then the driver-less tube the DLR. We learnt about a big steam powered ship which loaded goods from one country to another. We also learnt about the water contamination problem in London which killed many people. But the people of London didn’t think it was this, they thought it was the cold weather. When people found this out they thought it was the grim reaper rowing on the river Thames claiming victims (those who drank the water).

We also learnt a bit about crimes that were punishable by death. two of the main crimes were theft and murder.

Year five also learnt about what the Anglo- Saxons and vikings have in common, did you know they were both from Scandinavia? We made our own ,money style badges out of sticky silver paper, a plain badge and a pencil.

Also we did so archaeology digging to find Viking and Saxon artifacts. We had to do a special Technic to make sure they did nit brake, one of the things we found was a leather pointed shoe, that a boy would have worn. The amazing thing is that the fabric didn’t rot away which is very rare! There were many oyster shells that were found as vikings ate a lot of these. We also found a bone comb embroidered with gold, which only the rich would be  able to afford. Year five class found many other ancient artifacts from the viking time.

We pretended to be a long boat so that we understood why the vikings chose the slim scary style.
